Last night, a friend and I were out listening to live music, my friend saw me texting and said. “Mark you need to upgrade your phone”. How many times have I heard that statement from friends and family members? We as black people love trying to keep up with the Joneses. Black people are more consumed with the way things look, instead of looking at the way things are. (Dr. Boyce Watkins)
Of course, I could’ve upgraded to an I-phone 6 or 7, but I chose not to. My little I-phone 5s has enough memory to perform what’s needed, and I am perfectly fine with that. Hence the word little. I must admit, I am sort of a contrarian, an against the grain type of guy. I’ve never been the in-crowd type of person. Honestly, I consider myself a semi-minimalist.
A minimalist’s desire is to live with fewer material possessions, or not own a car or a television, or travel all over the world. I am not quite there yet, perhaps one day I will completely conform to minimalism. Ok, let me get back on subject here.
Let’s get into the reason I think I-phones/cell phones are too damn big. First off, I don’t like the idea of walking around with a big ass device stuffed in my front pocket. Although I am too old for skinny jeans, the comfortability of a big cell phone is still unassuming to me.
The idea of carrying around a big cell phone in my hand is not an option as well. Go ahead and call me old school, old fashion, an old head, I get it lol. I can admit, I am the same guy that laughed at old guys that are currently walking around with flip phones lol. No offense taken.
There are several reasons why women carry purses. They have all type of hygiene products and various items that are small and large in size. We men are totally the opposite. We are very low maintenance. In my opinion, it is weird to see a grown man with a big ass cell phone. I understand, the bigger cell phones consists of more memory, gadgets and components, but I am just not there yet.
If anyone has a solution other than walking around with a big cell phone in your hand or pocket, please let me know. (I don’t wear backpacks) Other than that, my little I-phone 5 s fits very well in my front pocket, along with my car keys. Thanks for the suggestions on upgrading to a higher I-phone, but for now, I am good.
