New Orleans Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday announced on Wednesday he’ll donate the rest of his salary for the 2019-2020 NBA season to various charities and Black-owned businesses.
The game checks, worth an estimated $5.3 million, will be distributed to charities and select businesses that are struggling through the newly created Jrue and Lauren Holiday Social Justice Fund.
Holiday made the announcement on the ESPN basketball show, “The Jump.”
The money will go to entities in New Orleans, Los Angeles and Indianapolis.
Holiday’s wife, retired soccer star Lauren, is from Indianapolis and the two met while students at UCLA.
The Pelicans are currently in the NBA “bubble environment” in Orlando to finish the season.
New Orleans opens play against the Utah Jazz on July 30.
